Spotted in a StartUp Health T-Shirt

Paulo Machado (@pjmachado) was recently spotted at several events wearing his StartUp Health t-shirts.

Here he is at the World Congress mHealth Innovation Exchange just last week:

And a while back at the HDI Forum: Health Datapalooza:

Paulo generously answered a few questions for us…

Why are you passionate about transforming healthcare?

The purpose of my life is to have a positive impact on people.  What better way to live my purpose than to be a Healthcare ‘Transformer’?  Our Healthcare industry is in dire need of a major overhaul.

What is one thing you are doing to support the ecosystem?

I am working with a wide range of stakeholders to develop solutions & business models that are Consumer centered, health/wellness focused & have measurable impact.

How do you see yourself helping the StartUp Health community?

I am looking forward to working with the StartUp Health community to develop the next generation of scalable solutions that will fuel the Healthcare Renaissance that is underway!

Thanks Paulo, we look forward to working with you as well!

Healthcare Transformer Spotlight

10 Questions with…

Sundeep Bhan Co-Founder & CEO, Medivo
Healthcare Transformer, StartUp Health Class 1

A member of StartUp Health’s inaugural class of Healthcare Transformers, Sundeep is a serial entrepreneur on a mission to revolutionize the way physicians and patients leverage lab testing to make better decisions leading to improved health. Sundeep is Co-founder and CEO of Medivo, which he co-founded with Jason Bhan, MD, and Destry Sulkes, MD, and is headquartered in New York City. The company recently raised $7 Million in a Series A from Safeguard Scientifics. Sundeep’s previous company Medsite was acquired by WebMD in 2006.

Describe your company in 140 characters or less.

Medivo is a health monitoring company for physicians and their patients. Our platform collects subjective and objective clinical data from labs, apps, and devices to help physicians provide better care and helps patients monitor their health better.

Why are you passionate about transforming health tech?

Our vision is to help save lives through better access to quality healthcare. We get to work on this every day. Just this year alone we have helped thousands of people that are at high risk for diabetes, hep C, colon cancer, gout, dyslipidemia, etc.

What was your biggest “a-ha!” moment?

When we realized that we can have a real impact on patient care at scale. As Jason (co-founder and family practitioner) always says, “As a physician I can help thousands of patients in my lifetime. With Medivo we can help millions…”

What is one piece of advice you’d like to share with other entrepreneurs?

Focus. Focus. Focus. You can only do a few things really well.

What is your super power?

Building the best teams. I think we have the best team in the industry.

Who inspires you?

Leonardo Da Vinci, my team at Medivo, my kids, basically anyone with an insatiable appetite to learn and improve.

What innovation will transform healthcare most in the next 24 months and why?

I think technology to bridge the gap between physicians and patients. Allowing physicians to scale their ability to treat thousands of patients well and allowing people to take on more responsibility for their own health.

What is your mantra?

Find the best people, empower and support them, and let the magic happen.

What do you do for fun?

Running, cycling, snow boarding, yoga, traveling, spending time outdoors, hanging out with family and friends, and working - yes. it is fun for me. :)

Answer a question you wish we had asked.

Where are you right now? Rio de Janeiro.

Looking Fit in a StartUp Health T-Shirt

Check out Ingrid Cheng (@fitnesswla) sporting her StartUp Health t-shirt!

Ingrid is the author of Dream: Creating a Better World with a mission to empower women. She recently answered a few questions for us to share with the StartUp Health community.

1) Why are you passionate about transforming healthcare?

I’m passionate about transforming healthcare because it’s time people take control of their own health. The U.S spends more per person on health care, about $4,500 more, than any other country, but our life expectancy is 27th in the world. Many people don’t have health insurance and more patients are addicted to powerful prescription drugs with harmful side-effects than ever before. Doctors act like drug-pushers, giving all kinds of drugs with the endorsement of FDA and big Pharma. I grew up in Hong Kong where home or natural remedies are used to treat most illnesses. Our bodies have amazing abilities to heal themselves with the right food and exercise. Health is a basic need that isn’t being met by HMOs and Western Medicine.

2) What is one thing you are doing to support the ecosystem?

One thing I’m doing to support the ecosystem is bringing my own reusable bags to grocery stores and shopping at the local Farmers Market.

3) Is there anything you need or could use support on from the StartUp Health community?

I want to enroll in StartUp Health Academy

Learn more about Ingrid and her passion for transforming healthcare by visiting IngridCheng.com and following her on Twitter.

Sporting a StartUp Health T-Shirt

Check out Pat (@ProjectPatEx) with his StartUp Health t-shirt!

We asked Pat a few questions, and he was happy to share his answers with the StartUp Health community.

1) Why are you passionate about transforming healthcare?

For the majority of my career, I have been a healthcare entrepreneur.  Through success and failure, I have maintained my vision and drive to develop simple software solutions for a complex system and industry.  The time is now for the healthcare industry to lower the cost of care for all while maintaining quality and a commitment to innovate.  I embrace the challenge and live for that change.

2) What is one thing you are doing to support the ecosystem?

I’m committed to addressing the deficiencies in after care delivery while raising satisfaction.

3) Is there anything you need or could use support on from the StartUp Health community?

Significant physician interest.
